(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 5607 Abercorn Drive at 10:33pm on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. Units arrived approximately seven minutes later and observed a single story residential structure with nothing showing.
Information from occupants and further investigation led crews to the garage where they encountered heavy smoke conditions and fire in the southwest corner. Crews brought the fire under control in approximately ten minutes.
An Assistant Fire Marshal was dispatched to the scene to perform a fire origin and cause investigation. The origin of the fire was determined to be the southwest corner of the garage. The cause is malfunctioning electrical equipment. Damage is estimated at $22,290.
Eight units from the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to this call. There were no reported injuries.
