(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 2712 Burrwood Drive on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 1:52pm.
The first units arrived less than five minutes later and observed heavy smoke and fire coming from a window on the front of the residence. Crews deployed a pre-connected hose line and performed an aggressive fire attack. The fire was brought under control in approximately fifteen minutes.
An Assistant Fire Marshal was dispatched to perform a fire origin and cause investigation. The fire originated in a closet in a bedroom. The cause is undetermined but we cannot rule out batteries from an electric scooter. Damage is estimated at $80,000. A housekeeper was home at the time of the event but exited safely. Unfortunately, a dog was found deceased.
Seven units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.
