Sustainability Speaker Series: Pollinator Conservation scheduled for Nov. 14 at City Hall

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

As part of a new Sustainability Speaker Series, the City of Columbia will host "Pollinator Conservation" on Nov. 14, from 6-8 p.m., in Room 1A/B of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway. The program will feature four speakers from local, state and federal agencies involved in sustainability and conservation issues.

  • Kelly Srigley-Werner, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, will present on pollinator conservation efforts nationwide.

  • Jamie Barton, Missouri Department of Conservation, will discuss pollinator habitat and maintenance as well as pollinator conservation on the state level.

  • Dr. Charles Nilon, University of Missouri, will present the "Importance of Conservation in Cities."

  • Danielle Fox, City of Columbia Office of Sustainability, will present the "City of Columbia Pollinator Conservation Efforts."

"Globally, we’re seeing a massive decline in biodiversity," Fox said. "The question is, what can we as a community do to help alleviate this real problem? This speaker series is just one of the ways we hope to educate the community on efforts that are currently taking place and being planned to improve the City’s biodiversity through pollinator conservation."
