Correction: Columbia Police investigate serious injury crash on Paris Road near Highway 63 on Oct. 30

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Correction: The correct age of Driver 2 - Jamey E. Sheppard is 42. The initial release incorrectly stated he was 32.

Date and Time: Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2019, at approximately 6:20 p.m.

Location: Paris Road at the southbound entrance ramp to Highway 63

Vehicle & Driver Info:

Vehicle 1 - Black Ford F250

Driver 1 -  Travis W. Mechlin, (male) 30, Columbia, Missouri, Seat belt - undetermined, Minor injuries

Passenger 1 -  Kevin D. Clark, (male) 23, Dixon, Missouri, Seat belt - undetermined, Moderate injuries


Vehicle 2 - White Ford Escape

Driver 2 - Jamey E. Sheppard, (male) 42, Columbia, Missouri, Seat belt - undetermined, Life-threatening injuries

Incident Details:

Vehicle 1 was traveling south on Paris Road. Vehicle 2 was traveling north on Paris Road. Vehicle 1 was attempting to make a left hand turn onto southbound Highway 63.  Vehicle 1 and Vehicle 2 were then involved in a head-on angle collision. Alcohol was a contributing factor in this crash. There is no further information as this investigation is ongoing.

Additional Information:

As a result of the preliminary investigation and after being released from the hospital, Travis W. Mechlin (Driver 1) was charged with Driving While Intoxicated - Serious Physical Injury.
