UPDATE: Charge correction - White has been charged with Involuntary Manslaughter in the first degree.
ORIGINAL RELEASE:
Columbia Police responded to a report of a shooting in the 4400 block of Rice Road at 11:52 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19. Police found a 13-year-old male juvenile who had suffered a serious gunshot wound. The 13-year-old was transported to a local trauma center where he was pronounced dead around 4 a.m.on Sunday, Oct. 20.
A suspect, Cameron J. White, 19, of Columbia, was arrested in the 4500 block of Orchard Lane on charges of 1st degree murder.
The juvenile’s family has been notified.
"Our thoughts are with the family and friends of this young man who has been taken from them and our community much too early," Columbia Police Chief Geoff Jones said.
There is no additional information for release available as this remains an active case.
