Columbia Police investigate fatal crash on Highway 63 (southbound) and East Broadway on Oct. 17

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

 Date and Time: Thursday, Oct. 17, 2019, at approximately 1:50 p.m.
Location: U.S. Highway 63 southbound at the East Broadway on-ramp

Vehicle and Driver Information:

Vehicle 1 - 2012 Ford Focus
Driver 1 - Talon Z. Kobush, 20, Columbia, Missouri, Seat Belt- No, Minor injuries
Passenger 1 - Sarah J. Bounds, 25, Columbia, Missouri, Seat Belt - No, Fatal injuries

Vehicle 2 - 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD, towing a trailer
Driver 2 - Brady H. Wiler, 23, New Bloomfield, Missouri, Seat Belt - Yes, No injuries

Incident Details: 

Vehicle 1 was traveling south on the on-ramp from East Broadway to South Highway 63. Vehicle 2 was traveling south on U.S. Highway 63 in the passing lane. Vehicle 1 struck the back of the trailer towed by Vehicle 2. Driver 1 and Passenger 1 were transported by paramedics to University Hospital. Passenger 1 later died as a result of her injuries. The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Next of kin has been notified.

Additional Information:

As a result of the preliminary investigation, Talon Z. Kobush (Driver 1) was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and involuntary manslaughter as a result of the crash. He was also charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
