On Wednesday, Oct. 16 at approximately 7:05 p.m. an officer with the Columbia Police Department attempted to initiate a traffic stop in the area of I-70 and West Boulevard on a vehicle for an equipment violation. The plate on the vehicle was obstructed. The driver failed to stop for the patrol vehicle, which had its emergency equipment activated.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree in front of Grant Elementary School, 10 E. Broadway. The driver fled on foot. The passenger was injured and taken to a local emergency room for medical treatment. There were no other injuries reported.
The Columbia Police Department thanks the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Boone County Sheriff’s Department and University of Missouri Police Department for all of their assistance while searching for the driver, who remains at large.
