Columbia Police officers responded to the area of Rice Road and Boyd Lane in reference to several reports of shots fired on Wednesday, Oct. 2, around 7 p.m. Officers arrived and immediately began canvassing the area for evidence and collecting statements from witnesses. Officers located broken glass and shell casings which confirmed the report of shots being fired, however, there were no vehicles, victims or suspects in the area. Witnesses provided descriptions for two vehicles that were observed leaving the area.
Officers then responded to a residence in the 3600 block of Chestnut Drive at approximately 7:30 p.m. in reference to a follow-up investigation. When officers arrived, they observed a vehicle that matched the description that was given by a witness, that was seen leaving the area of Rice Road and Boyd Lane.Continuing with the investigation, officers were able to locate the second vehicle that was involved. Officers found property damage to the vehicle that was caused by gunfire.
A suspect in the incident, identified as Terrell Marquise Lawrence, 21, of Columbia, was arrested for Assault 1st, Domestic Assault 1st, Domestic Assault 2nd, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Property Damage.Anyone with information about this incident is asked to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or Crimestoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
