The City of Columbia Public Works Street Division plans to install a speed table on William Street, Aug. 7-8, weather permitting. The calming device will be located at the intersection of South William Street and Bouchelle Avenue. Streets will remain open during construction but will be reduced to one lane while crews are working. Flaggers will be present to assist motorists through the work zone. Minor delays are expected and motorists are encouraged to consider using alternative routes if possible.
South William Street, which was No. 3 on the 2017 Neighborhood Traffic Management Program Priority List, was approved by City Council on Aug. 5, 2019, after a public hearing, as well as two interested parties meetings on May 2, 2018, and May 2, 2019. The estimated investment for the project is $10,000 paid for through annual traffic calming funds. More information is available at CoMo.gov/PublicWorks/William-calming.
Motorists, nonmotorized transportation users and pedestrians are urged to use extreme caution in the work zone.
