The City of Columbia Solid Waste Utility will implement a new summer schedule allowing collection crews to finish prior to the peak of the afternoon heat, reducing the risk of heat-related injury or illness. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, recycle and trash should be placed curbside no later than 6:30 a.m. on the designated collection day. Residents may place materials at the curb as early as 4 p.m. the day prior to collection.
Customers can stay informed about residential collection and recycling programs with the free COMO Recycle and Trash app available for Apple and Android users. Once signed up, residents can receive reminders and notifications via email, text message, automated phone call or calendar alert. Additionally, the Waste Wizard feature available through the app allows users to search keywords for proper disposal methods of specific items. From aerosol cans to yard waste, the intuitive search tool helps clarify what can be reused, recycled or composted instead of going into Columbia’s landfill.
