Columbia Police responded to a domestic disturbance on Friday, July 5, at 7:50 a.m., at a residence in the 3400 block of Zinnia Drive.
Patrol officers arrived and contacted a female victim at the residence who had superficial physical injuries but refused medical attention. The victim told officers the male suspect, who had displayed a knife, remained inside the residence. After several attempts to contact the suspect, the Columbia Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiations Team (CNT) were requested to respond.
Utilizing a tool known as a throw phone, a device used to establish a dedicated line of communication, a CNT negotiator was able to convince the suspect to turn himself in. "We are very thankful that the negotiator was able to establish communication with the suspect and convince him to comply without having to use more force," said Assistant Chief Jeremiah Hunter.
The suspect, Timothy David Rottet, 26, of Columbia, has been arrested for domestic assault, property damage, armed criminal action, felonious restraint, possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Additionally, he is being booked for an outstanding probation/parole violation warrant with the original charge being a weapons offense and assault.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or Crimestoppers at 573.875.TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
