A new Columbia Police Department substation is now open at the Boone Electric Cooperative headquarters, 1413 Range Line Street.
With this new substation, there are now five Police substations throughout Columbia. The substations provide spaces where officers assigned to work in that area can meet with residents to discuss any issues that the residents are seeing in their communities. The substations also allow officers a place to complete required paperwork while staying closer to their patrol beats.
"Having the officers stay in the neighborhoods will hopefully increase the comfort of the community members to sit down and talk with the officers in a neutral environment," Columbia Police Interim Chief Geoff Jones said.
The other Police substations are located at Columbia Fire Station 8, 2301 E. Nifong Blvd.; Columbia Fire Station 9, 201 Blue Ridge Road; near McKee Park, 4507-A Orchard Lane; and Columbia Insurance Group, 2102 Whitegate Drive.
