**UPDATE**Commercial Structure Fire at Spencer's Crest Condominiums

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal Jim Pasley conducted a fire origin and cause investigation for the fire at Spencer's Crest Condominiums Thursday, June 20, 2019.

Chief Pasley determined the origin of the fire was on a second floor deck.  The cause of the fire is undetermined but improperly discarded smoking materials cannot be ruled out.

Damage is estimated at $250,000.  The building is an 8 plex.  Four units sustained damage.

One firefighter sustained non-life threatening injuries, was transported to Boone Hospital for evaluation and released.  There were no other reported injuries.

  


The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 3800 Saddlebrook Place, Spencer’s Crest Condominiums at 4:13pm on Thursday, June 20, 2019.  911 callers indicated heavy Fire was coming from a balcony.

Columbia Fire Department units arrived approximately 4 minutes later and reported heavy fire conditions in the roof and back of the building.  The Incident Commander upgraded to a second alarm, requesting additional equipment and personnel.

Fir crews began an aggressive fire attack using preconnected hoselines and elevated water streams from aerial devices. Crews fought the fire for approximately 30 minutes before bringing it under control.  Crews are continuing fire fighting operations, looking for hot spots and fire extension.

Witnesses on the scene and occupants in the building indicated everyone safely evacuated.  We continue to verify that information.

Fire investigators are on the scene and will perform an origin and cause investigation.  Additional details will be released as they become available.
