Columbia Police investigate shots fired near Fifth Street, Broadway with non-life threatening injuries on May 11

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Police responded to the area of East Broadway and Fifth Street on Saturday, May 11 at approximately 1 a.m. for a report of shots heard.

Evidence was immediately located at the scene, which confirmed shots were fired. During the investigation, officers learned that the victim was taken to a local emergency room for medical treatment of non-life threatening injuries, but was transported by a personally-owned vehicle.

With information collected during the investigation, CPD was able to identify a vehicle that was possibly involved but had already left the scene. A deputy with Boone County Sheriff’s Department spotted the vehicle and made contact with it and the occupants. Inside the vehicle, officers located more evidence that linked the vehicle to the shots fired.

The suspect, who left the scene prior to officers’ arrival in another vehicle, is described as a black male and was last seen in a blue four-door vehicle.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or Crimestoppers at 573.875.TIPS to remain anonymous.
