The State Historical Society of Missouri's new Columbia headquarters, the
Center for Missouri Studies, has been constructed at 605 Elm St., with its grand opening currently planned for Aug. 10, 2019. Additional work, however, will require sidewalk, parking and lane closures from May 2 to July 15, weather permitting.

Sixth Street Closures May 2 - May 16

A closure of the east side parking lane and sidewalk on Sixth Street between Locust Street and Elm Street is planned. Two-way traffic will be maintained with reduced lane widths. These closures will allow for the construction of new sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Locust Street Closures May 15 - May 29

A closure of the south parking lane and sidewalk on Locust Street between Sixth and Seventh streets is planned. Two-way traffic will be maintained with reduced lane widths. Crews will install new sidewalks, curbs and gutters as well as a new drive approach.

Seventh Street Closures  May 20 - July 15 (Pending City Council approval)

A closure of traffic and parking lanes is planned on Seventh Street between Locust and Elm streets in addition to the closure of the sidewalk on the west side of Seventh Street. Crews will install ADA ramps to the existing building as well as sidewalks, curbs and gutters. Crews also plan to place a brick exterior on the east side of the building.

Elm Street Closures March 6-June 4

There is an existing road and sidewalk closure on Elm Street between Sixth and Seventh streets through June 4 so crews can install stone on the south side of the building.

Construction schedules are weather permitting. Motorists and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when in the work zone. Pedestrians should follow the detour signage.  More information about the project is available on the University of Missouri website at https://goo.gl/PDrZVG.
