A portion of Columbia Parks and Recreation’s Grindstone Creek Trail will be closed from May 1-3 for a honeysuckle removal project that is being planned by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC). The affected portion of the trail is a half-mile in length, and is located near the Grindstone Nature Area just east of Old Highway 63.
The land along the trail is owned by MDC. Invasive honeysuckle has grown substantially in the area, pushing out native trees and wildflowers.
The trail closure is planned to ensure trail users’ safety. Crews will be cutting honeysuckle using heavy equipment, with the potential for woody debris to be thrown onto the trail.
A detour will be available during the trail closure; please see the attached map. For more information, call the Missouri Department of Conservation at 573.815.7900 or Columbia Parks and Recreation at 573.874.7460.
