Update about suspicious individual reported to Columbia Police on April 9

(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Police Interim Chief Geoff Jones held a press conference at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9 regarding reports of a suspicious individual. Jones spoke with media partners to describe two events in which a suspicious individual was reported at two local schools. Within minutes of the press conference concluding, the described individual came to the CPD lobby to speak with officers and cooperated with the investigation.

The individual was identified as Kelvin Joe, 53, of Columbia. He spoke with officers and was cited for Trespass in the 1st Degree and Driving While Revoked. He was issued a no trespass warning, which prohibits him from being on Columbia Public School property.

Jones stated that while Joe’s actions were reported as suspicious, Police do not believe he was targeting children.

Jones would like to thank the local media partners for quickly disseminating information about the individual. Jones would also like to thank the community and CPD officers for working together to resolve this quickly.
