Fair Housing and Lending Seminar scheduled for Friday, April 5

(COLUMBIA, MO) - There is still time to register for the 2019 Fair Housing and Lending Seminar. The City’s annual free Fair Housing and Lending Seminar will be held on Friday, April 5 from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at City Hall, 701 East Broadway.  The event will begin with Council Member Michael Trapp presenting the Mayor’s Proclamation for Fair Housing and Lending Month.

Experts Rigel Oliveri, Eric Krekel, and Randall Cole will present on topics such as fair housing and lending laws, service animals, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Missouri Human Rights Act and affordable housing. Real Estate Solutions Group President Nate Johnson will present a program entitled "Focus on Fair Housing."  

Available for the afternoon session will be an optional Building Inclusive Communities (BIC) Workshop presented by City of Columbia BIC Facilitrainers, based upon the National Conference for Community Justice’s model, this small group workshop (limited to 25 participants) focuses on early life socialization, dynamics of privilege and power, forces at work in systems of oppression, and how to create change in a person’s own life and institutional or work setting.

The event also includes a City program fair, which allows attendees to meet with representatives of different City programs related to housing, neighborhood development, energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

City of Columbia Human Rights Commission Chair Andrea Waner will facilitate the event and provide closing remarks.

Participants in the Journey Towards Inclusive Excellence may have their passports stamped if they attend this free event. The morning session of presentations by Rigel Oliveri, Eric Krekel and Randall Cole has been approved for 3.3 MCLE credit hours by the Missouri Bar for attorneys. The afternoon presentation by Nate Johnson has been approved for 3 CORE credits for Missouri licensed real estate professionals and 3 MCLE credit hours by the Missouri Bar for attorneys. The BIC workshop does not qualify for CORE or CLE credits.
