Columbia Police officers were dispatched to a report of a home invasion in the 1500 block of Spiros Drive at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Thursday, March 21.
The investigation revealed that three males forced entry into the residence while brandishing firearms and claiming to be with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department. The suspects were not wearing clothing that resembled police officers, they were wearing civilian clothing that was described as light-colored hoodies, which they used to conceal their faces. One suspect was wearing camouflage pants, a second suspect was wearing light-colored pants and the third suspect was wearing dark-colored pants. No items were taken and no injuries were reported. The suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
With assistance from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department, Columbia Police used a K-9 to track the suspects, but the K-9 lost the scent.
"Columbia Police Department officers will always be in full uniform when executing a search warrant, which includes the patrol uniform or the tactical uniform. The tactical uniform is identifiable as a police officer from any angle," Lt. Lance Bolinger said.
