Columbia Police investigate assaults on March 8
(COLUMBIA, MO) - Columbia Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Garth Avenue and Lynn Street on Friday, March 8 at 12:43 p.m. for a disturbance with a weapon. The investigation revealed that a female was assaulted by a male with a baseball bat.
As officers were speaking with the female, another call was received of an assault with a baseball bat and possible knife at the Wabash Station on North 10th Street. Initial information indicated that the suspect at the Wabash matched the description of the same suspect that committed the assault on North Garth Avenue. Numerous officers responded to the Wabash Station in an attempt to locate the suspect and render assistance to the male victim at that location. It was determined that the same suspect was responsible for the assault on North 10th Street.
In the area of the Boone County Courthouse on Walnut Street, the suspect chased another individual and also attempted to assault a third victim. Court Marshals at the Courthouse saw the suspect and detained him in the area of Seventh Street and Ash Street.
The female victim on North Garth Avenue sustained minor injuries, while the male victim at the Wabash Station sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The third victim in the area of the Courthouse sustained no injuries.
The suspect is in custody and the investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information about this incident, please contact the Columbia Police Department at 573.874.7652 or Crimestoppers at 573.875.TIPS to remain anonymous.
