(COLUMBIA, MO) - Due to the forecast for unseasonably cold weather this weekend, the City of Columbia will open a temporary overnight warming center on Saturday, March 2, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, at the Wabash Station, 126 N. 10th St.
In addition, Room at the Inn, a community-based winter shelter for persons experiencing homelessness, is planning to extend shelter services for one week, from March 3 to 9. Due to the extended service, organizers are in need of volunteers for a variety of shifts, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day. Volunteers would report to Broadway Christian Church, 2601 W. Broadway in Columbia. To sign up to volunteer, please visit: https://roomattheinncomo.org/volunteer. Room at the Inn is a contracted social services partner of the City of Columbia.
Information about the local network of warming centers and official shelters is available on the City's website: CoMo.gov/Health/Human-Services/Social-Services/Warming-and-Cooling-Centers.
