Residential Structure Fire on Center Brooke Court

(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire at 4801 Center Brook Court, Thornbrook Subdivision, at 2:57pm.

First arriving units observed heavy smoke coming from a large, single family residence with a walkout basement.  Crews deployed a pre-connected hose line and performed an aggressive interior fire attack.  Fire personnel reported significant fire in the kitchen area upon entry.  The incident commander requested one additional unit because of the size of the home and the report of heavy smoke.  Other than the family dog, there was no one home at the time of the fire.

The incident was brought under control in approximately fifteen minutes.  Assistant Fire Marshal Shawn McGruder was dispatched to perform a fire origin and cause investigation and remains on the scene at the time of this press release performing that investigation.  Additional information will be released when it becomes available.

Eight units from the Columbia Fire Department responded to this call.  Unfortunately, the family's dog was inside at the time of the fire and was found deceased.  There were no other reported injuries.

The Columbia Fire Department reminds citizens that smoke alarms save lives.  They should be placed on every level of the home and in places where you sleep.  Test your smoke alarms monthly by pushing the test button.  Batteries should be changed every six months.
