(COLUMBIA, MO) - The Columbia Fire Department would like to remind everyone when you "Fall Back" for Daylight Savings Time on November 4th, help keep your family safe from fire. Smoke alarms are critical in ensuring your family receives early notification of a fire event. Please take a few minutes this weekend to cover the following guidelines regarding smoke alarms:
-Test smoke alarms at least once a month.
-Make sure everyone in the house understands the sound of a smoke alarm and how to respond.
-Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old.
-Replace all batteries at least once a year.
-Make sure alarms are located on every level of your home and in the immediate area where occupants sleep.
The Columbia Fire Department is continuing to work towards our goal of every residence having the protection of a smoke alarm. If you need assistance testing, installing, replacing, or obtaining a smoke alarm, please contact the Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office at (573)874-7556.
