On Thursday, Aug. 23, Columbia Police officers arrested Derrick Smith, 30, for Aggravated Assault and a Weapons Law violation in relation to the shots fired incident on Aug. 22 in the 2900 block of Leeway Drive.
The investigation is ongoing and no photo is currently available.
Original release - Around 6 p.m. on Aug. 22, Columbia police responded to a report of shots heard in the 2900 block of Leeway Drive. An investigation revealed a male had suffered a gunshot wound. The victim was transported by private vehicle to a local hospital before officers arrived. It was later determined the victim has life-threatening injuries.
As of this release, Columbia Police remain on the scene processing evidence.
