Operations should begin on 56 Columbia streets Sep. 4-14, weather permitting.
Please obey no parking signs during the work and use caution in the work zones.
Details: CoMo.gov/PublicWorks/ChipSeal2018
Original Press Release:
The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced on Aug. 10 that Missouri Petroleum, a contractor for the City, plans to begin chip seal maintenance on sections of 56 Columbia streets Aug. 23-31, weather permitting. The chip seal process prevents pavement deterioration by sealing cracks and preventing water intrusion.
No parking signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance of when vehicles should be moved off the roadway. The schedule of streets to be chip sealed is available online at CoMo.gov/PublicWorks/Chipseal2018.
Flaggers will assist drivers through the work zone. Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to use caution in the work zone and find alternate routes when possible.
The Street Division will sweep up any excess chips several times after the work is completed and will return for further sweeping in the fall. Onyx surface seal may be scheduled on chip sealed streets next year to further lock in the chips. Reports of excess chips on the roadway may be reported to the City's Contact Center at 573.874.CITY (2489) or emailed to [email protected].
