(COLUMBIA, MO) - On Friday, August 3rd, 2018 at 7:22 PM, units from the Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to 3401 Lost Tree Terrace for a residential structure fire. The first unit arrived on the scene five minutes later and observed heavy fire from the rear of the structure and venting through the roof. Crews began immediate suppression activities and had the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. Four occupants were in the residence when the fire started and all escaped without injury.
The Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office conducted an on scene fire investigation. It was determined the fire originated in the rear, exterior of the structure and spread to the rear exterior wall and then attic. The cause of the fire was combustibles too close to grilling operations. Damages are estimated at $80,000.
The Columbia Fire Department reminds citizens to keep barbecue grills at least 10 feet from their residence or other combustibles while in operation.
