Columbia Police detectives arrested Tammy Yvette Nevels, 45, of Columbia in relation to the residential structure fire on Mohawk Avenue on Tuesday, July 10.
Detectives were called to the home located at 308 Mohawk Avenue to assist with the investigation at around 3 a.m. after the Columbia Fire Department Fire Marshall’s Office determined the fire was suspicious in nature. The residence was occupied by a male, 76, and male juvenile, 16, at the time the fire was set. The fire started on or near a bed within the residence. Through the investigation, detectives determined the fire was started by another occupant of the residence identified as Nevels, who had left the residence after the fire was started.
At 12:37 p.m., detectives responded back to the residence after receiving information Nevels had returned. Nevels was arrested at 12:53 p.m. for Felony Arson in the First Degree with a bond to be set by the Court.
