Public input meeting set for cross-country course at Gans Creek Recreation Area

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Parks and Recreation is holding a public input meeting regarding the construction of a cross-country course at Gans Creek Recreation Area, 3360 E. Gans Road. The drop-in meeting will be held at the Gans concession building from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10.

The course is being planned in cooperation with the University of Missouri, to potentially serve as the future home of the University’s cross-country team. In addition to Mizzou's use, the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) will be using the course for their state championships for five years starting in November 2019. It is anticipated that when not in use by the University of Missouri or MSHSAA, the course will be made available to local track clubs, high schools and other colleges as well as recreational runners.

Staff will be available at the public input meeting to share preliminary course designs, answer questions and take comments.

The project is budgeted at $200,000, to be funded by the 2015 voter-approved Park Sales Tax. The University of Missouri will also contribute toward the project.

For more information, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 573-874-7460.
