One detained after rolling disturbance with a gun

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

A female is safe following a rolling disturbance involving a gun that ended outside the Columbia Police Department lobby today.

On Sunday, April 29, at approximately 7:13 a.m., Boone County Joint Communications received a call regarding a male suspect waving a gun outside of a vehicle while following a female victim who was in a separate vehicle. The victim was en-route to CPD and indicated the suspect was trying to kill her.

As the vehicles approached the department, they collided with a vehicle parked on Walnut Street. The victim, 37, ran inside the CPD lobby. The suspect attempted to follow the victim and officers chased the suspect back to the vehicle where a struggle ensued over the suspect’s gun. Officers successfully disarmed the suspect. The suspect then fled on foot and officers followed. Another struggle occurred in the 400 block of Park Avenue where officers were able to detain the suspect.

One officer sustained minor scrapes and bruising as a result of the incident. The amount of damage to the vehicle is unknown at this time. The investigation is on-going.
