On Saturday, April 21, 2018, the Columbia Police Department will host two more FREE training sessions related to an active shooter/violent intruder response. These sessions are open to local leaders of churches, schools, hospitals, businesses, and other organizations. Pre-registration is required.
Our department received vast interest in the first training held on January 13. Following the training, we continued to receive requests to host additional sessions for those who were unable to attend; these sessions are in response to those requests. The sessions will take place again at the CPD Regional Training Center located at 5001 E. Meyer Industrial Drive in Columbia. The first session will be from 8:30 until 11:00 a.m. and the second session will be from 1:00 until 3:30 p.m. Participants will select only one of the two sessions to attend as both will contain the same material.
Sgt. Mike Hestir and Officer Jeff Forck will facilitate the training once again. Each session will cover the same material provided to participants in the January 13th training, to include: the process of planning for and reacting to an armed intruder, and the decision making citizens may have to employ in a crisis where they and those around them may be the target. The sessions can accommodate up to 65 participants per session.
Again, pre-registration for the training is required and can be done online by visiting our website at www.CoMo.gov/Police, or by phone at (573) 817-5016.
