Columbia Police officers arrested Michael Dwaun Shields, 38, of Columbia in reference to last night's gunfire at 1612 N. Providence Road, Welcome Inn.
Through investigation, officers determined Shields fired multiple rounds at a vehicle that was being stolen in the parking lot of the business. The vehicle had been idling in the lot when Matthew Benjamin Moore, 39, of Columbia entered the vehicle and began driving off. Officers located the vehicle and Moore in the 600 block of Vandiver Drive at approximately 7:23 p.m. Moore was arrested for Felony Tampering in the First Degree with a bond to be set by the Court.
Shields is a convicted felon. He was arrested at 1612 N. Providence Road, Welcome Inn, at 9:01 p.m. for Armed Criminal Action, Felony Unlawful for Certain Persons to Possess Concealable Firearm, and Felony Second Degree Assault with bonds to be set by the Court.
