At least one suspect is still at large tonight after an attempted home invasion in the 3200 block of Mexico Gravel Road.
Columbia Police officers responded to the area at 9:51 p.m. after Boone County Joint Communications received a report of a residential burglary with a gun that had just occurred. The preliminary investigation revealed an occupant (victim) of a home answered the door after hearing a knock. At least one suspect was at the door and armed with a firearm. The suspect attempted to force entry into the home, however, the victim was able to keep the suspect out. The victim retrieved a firearm and fired rounds while inside the residence. The suspect then fled the area on foot. There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. The suspect is described as a male wearing a mask and gloves.
Citizens are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or people to law enforcement immediately. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Columbia Police Department at (573) 874-7652, or call CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS (8477).
