One person was transported to a local hospital tonight with serious injuries after a home invasion and gunfire in the 200 block of Loch Lane.
Columbia Police officers responded to the area at 8:26 p.m. after Boone County Joint Communications received reports of a male with a gunshot wound. Upon officers' arrival, they located a male victim that had been struck by gunfire. The victim was transported to a local hospital by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) with serious injuries.
The preliminary investigation revealed at least two armed suspects forced entry into a residence and demanded money. During the incident, multiple rounds were discharged by the suspect(s) striking the victim. The suspects fled the area. There were no further reported injuries and the amount of property damage is unknown at this time. One suspect was described as a black male wearing all dark colored clothing and the second suspect was described as a male.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are actively investigating the incident. Given the on-going nature of the investigation, the information is subject to change.
