The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced on Dec. 1 that the Street Division plans to begin repairing base failures in the Thornbrook Subdivision beginning Dec. 11 at 8 a.m., weather permitting. The work is being planned in two stages to avoid completely closing the road.
"There are subgrade failures on this section of Thornbrook Ridge that will require us to repair and replace a number of the road panels," Pavement Engineer Seth Nelson said.
Stage 1 of the work will close the westbound lane and entrance of Thornbrook Ridge from Scott Boulevard to Claybrook Court. The work is scheduled to be completed by 8 a.m. on Dec. 18, weather permitting. Motorists will need to use an alternate entrance during this repair.
Stage 2 of the work will close the eastbound lane and exit of Thornbrook Ridge from Claybrook Court to Scott Boulevard beginning Dec. 18 with work scheduled to be completed by 3 p.m. on Dec. 22, weather permitting. Motorists will need to use an alternate exit during this repair.
Message boards will be set up in this area as a reminder a week prior to work beginning. Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution in the work zone and use an alternate route if possible.
