Attempted home invasion leads to shooting in the 500 block of Hickman Avenue

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

A male victim was transported to a local hospital this morning with a gunshot wound after an attempted home invasion.


Columbia Police were dispatched to the 500 block of Hickman Avenue at 5:55 a.m. today for a reported home invasion with a gun that had just occurred. Boone County Joint Communication received information that a male victim had been shot.


The preliminary investigation revealed at least one suspect approached a residence in the area and attempted to force entry into the home. The suspect(s) were not able to gain full access, however, began firing rounds into the residence through an opening in the door. The male victim occupying the residence was struck by the gunfire. The suspect(s) fled the area prior to officers' arrival.


The male victim, who is in his early 20's, was transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital for non life-threatening injuries. There were no further injuries as a result of this incident and the amount of property damage is unknown at this time. The investigation is on-going.
