Creasy Springs Bridge, Road open ahead of schedule

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Creasy Springs Road is now fully open as bridge repairs were completed ahead of schedule.

"We appreciate the public's patience for our repair to the bridge and are excited to announce the work was ahead of schedule," Public Works Director David Nichols said. "The bridge was structurally sound but the surface of the bridge required major maintenance."

Boone Construction installed new wearing surface to repair the surface of the deck, new asphalt transitions and made safety modifications to the guardrails. The road and bridge closure, which began Oct. 9, was originally scheduled to last 21 days but was completed in 18 days. Bear Creek Trail was also diverted away from going under the bridge but reopened Wednesday.

There is still some work to be done around the bridge. A small section of sidewalk is scheduled to be replaced at each end of the bridge on Oct. 30. Minor delays can be expected while that work is completed but the road and bridge will remain open.

Road, trail closure scheduled on Creasy Springs Road for bridge repair at Bear Creek, Oct. 9-30

Columbia Public Works announced on Oct. 3 that Boone Construction plans to close the bridge at Bear Creek on Creasy Springs Road beginning Monday, Oct. 9 for repairs to the bridge deck.

This will result in a total road closure at the bridge until Oct. 30, weather permitting. The trail under the bridge will also be closed during this time; however, the trail will be open for the Bear Creek Half Marathon on Oct. 14.

"These repairs are greatly needed to extend the life and improve the safety of this bridge," Engineering Manager Richard Stone said. "The full closure is necessary to be able to make these repairs safely and efficiently. We understand and apologize for the inconvenience, but options are limited for these types of bridge repairs."

Repair of the bridge includes a new deck, guardrail modifications and asphalt overlay for a portion of the road. This is a maintenance project to repair the deck of an existing bridge. The estimated investment will be approximately $135,000.

Motorists, nonmotorized transportation users and pedestrians are encouraged to plan alternate routes and exercise extreme caution in and around the work zone.
