The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced Oct. 20 that Capital Paving plans to mill and overlay the intersection of Old Highway 63 and Broadway during the evening hours of Oct. 24-25, weather permitting.
Night work, which is being done to minimize the impact on local traffic, is expected to begin around 9 p.m., depending upon traffic levels. Crews plan to work until approximately 5:30 a.m., weather permitting.
The intersection will not be closed but there will be alternating lane restrictions during the work. Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when passing through the work zone. Minor delays are possible.
To mill the intersection, workers will use heavy equipment to remove the surface of the street and place it into dump trucks. Workers will then spray "tack," a liquid asphalt coating, to help the new asphalt adhere to the road. Once asphalt has been laid, it can be driven on almost immediately. Please follow the instructions of flaggers in the area.
More information about street maintenance is available at CoMo.gov/PublicWorks.
