The entertainment schedule has been set for Columbia Parks and Recreation's 40th Annual Heritage Festival and Craft Show. The free festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sept. 16-17 at Nifong Park, 3700 Ponderosa St.
Entertainers this year will include returning fest-favorites the Haskell Indian Nations Dancers, the Kay Brothers, Kansas City Celtic Pipe and Drum Corps, Ironweed Bluegrass Band, the Lace Wings, the Boone Howlers and Lem Sheppard. A full schedule of entertainment is on the website, CoMo.gov.
In addition to entertainment, the Heritage Festival features reenactors, artisans and tradesmen dressed in 19th century attire demonstrating their "lost" trades and selling their wares, and a handmade craft show.
The Boone County Historical Society will welcome Heritage Festival visitors in several venues in Nifong Park, including historic structures in The Village at Boone Junction and the historic Maplewood House, built in 1877. The Walters-Boone Museum will also be open and is admission-free.
Those attending the Heritage Festival this year are encouraged to take advantage of free shuttles, as parking on-site is limited. Shuttles will run from the Discovery Park Development parking lots just south of Nifong Park.
For more information on the Heritage Festival, visit www.CoMo.gov (search Heritage Festival) or call Columbia Parks and Recreation at 573-874-7460.
The Heritage Festival is coordinated by Columbia Parks and Recreation and sponsored by Columbia Convention & Visitors Bureau Tourism Development Program, KPLA 101.5, KFRU 1400, the Missouri Arts Council, Missouri Life magazine & Columbia Daily Tribune.
