Columbia Public Works announced on Tuesday, Aug. 15 that Sam Gaines Construction plans to close one northbound lane on Providence Road near the Rollins Street intersection on the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 16, weather permitting. This lane restriction is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and last several hours. The purpose of the lane restriction is to saw pavement for removal at Rollins Street.
Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when passing through the work zone. Providence will not be closed but some temporary traffic delays may occur.
"A conservative estimate is that the lane would most likely reopen by midnight," Construction Project Superintendent David Fennewald said. "Traffic will still be able to travel on Providence, but obviously we'd prefer if drivers find alternate routes if they can."
Project progress and other details are available throughout the summer and early fall at CoMo.gov/PublicWorks/Providence-improvement.
