In preparation for this winter's MKT Trail bridge replacement project, crews will be conducting preliminary work on bridges 5, 7 and 8 on Monday, July 31. All three bridges will be closed to trail users at this time. The work is expected to take a full day.
Crews will be drilling on all three bridges, making them unsafe for use while the work is being conducted. Trail users are encouraged to avoid this area of the MKT, which extends from the east side of the 3M Wetlands to just west of the Stadium Drive underpass. Signage will be posted at affected areas. After the work is complete on Monday, bridges will reopen and will be safe to use.
The work is necessary to prepare for the bridge replacement project, which will begin in November. During this project, trail users will be asked to use a detour. The project should be completed by April 2018, depending on weather.
The MKT bridge replacement project will be funded by the Park Sales Tax and a Recreational Trail Program grant. For more information, call Parks and Recreation at 573-874-7460.
