Beginning Tuesday, July 11 at 7 a.m., Summit Mechanical Inc. is scheduled to begin work affecting the travel lanes and sidewalks on Fifth Street, between Turner Avenue and Conley Avenue. Lane and sidewalk closures will be necessary, and work will be phased such that one direction of travel will be open at all times. The work associated with the closure is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, July 12 at 3:30 p.m., weather permitting.
The work will include a 48-inch-wide street cut across Fifth Street to install a 4-inch fire service connection to 501 Turner Ave. This work is not associated with the U-Centre Apartments project currently under construction to the east of this work area, which involves a previously approved closure in this general area.
Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when near the work zone and use an alternate route if possible.
Summit Mechanical Inc. has a work permit approved by the City of Columbia.
