For the 17th year, the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services is providing nutritional summertime lunches to children 18 years of age or younger through the Lunch in the Park program.
Lunch in the Park begins Monday, June 5 at Douglass Park, 400 N. Providence Road, in the main shelter located next to the playground off Rogers Street. The USDA-funded program, an extension of the school free and reduced lunch program, will run through Friday, Aug. 4. Lunches will be served every weekday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. except on July 3 and July 4.
In past years, Lunch in the Park has served an average of 100 children each day. The complete, wholesome meals are prepared by Columbia Public Schools and served by volunteers. Persons interested in volunteering should contact Voluntary Action Center at 573-874-2273.
