Arrests made after larceny near University Avenue

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Police officers arrested Jaron Royshone Gates, 20, and Jervon Marvin Corne Johnson, 19, both of Boone County, Missouri in relation to a larceny that occurred early this morning near University Avenue.

At 2:11 a.m., Boone County Joint Communications received a call referencing a robbery that had occurred in the 1700 block of University Avenue. Columbia Police officers responded to the area and located two male subjects matching the description of two of the suspects. The investigation revealed a female victim, 22, was walking to her vehicle when three males approached her from behind. One of the suspects, later identified as Johnson, grabbed and pulled her purse from her grasp before fleeing the area with the other two suspects.

When officers attempted to apprehend Johnson, he fled on foot, leading officers on a short foot pursuit. Gates was found in possession of money that matched the denominations taken from the victim.

Gates was arrested at 2:25 a.m. in the area of Ann Street and Anthony Street for Felony Stealing with a bond to be set by the Court and Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance with release on Municipal summons.

Johnson was arrested at 2:35 a.m. in the area of Ann Street and Anthony Street for Felony Stealing and Felony Resisting Arrest with bonds to be set by the Court, and for Misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with release on Municipal summons.

The third suspect remains outstanding and the investigation is on-going.
