Columbia Police officers responded to the 1000 block of Claudell Lane today at 12:49 p.m. in reference to a call of a gunshot wound.
Upon officers' arrival, they located two male victims in two separate locations of the complex with gunshot wounds. One victim's injuries were clearly life-threatening and officers responded with life-saving measures until Emergency Medical Services arrived. Both victims were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.
Officers located several shell casings throughout the area and observed at least one residence struck by gunfire. Multiple people have been detained for questioning; however, no arrests have been made at the time of this release. A K-9 officer with the Boone County Sheriff's Department arrived to assist with a K-9 track in the area. Additional personnel on scene include detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and the Street Crimes Unit, Crime Scene Investigator, and several Patrol officers.
Currently, officers are working to collect evidence and speak to the multiple witnesses that were in the area at the time of the shooting. Approximately two-thirds of the complex is part of the investigation. The complex is still open to residents coming in and out, however, a high police presence is possible for several hours. The investigation is on-going.
