The City of Columbia Parking Utility is installing 30 new parking meters this week near Flat Branch Park, from Fourth Street to Cherry Street as part of a citywide update of approximately 1,600 new meters planned for early January. These 30 new meters are being installed for the purpose of staff training but can be used by the public. Once all of the new meters are rolled out in January, they will accept coins, the Parkmobile app and pre-paid parking cards. However, the 30 meters will only accept change for the time being. Twenty of the meters will have double bay meter heads that control two parking spaces and 10 will be single bay meters. The meter vendor is MacKay Meters.
