The Columbia Police Department, combined with the Missouri State Highway Patrol and Boone County Sheriff's Department, will conduct a prolonged training exercise following the full scale active assailant exercise on Monday, November 21.
This exercise will be a direct continuation of the active assailant exercise and will also take place on the University of Missouri campus at Laws Hall, located at the corner of Tiger Avenue and Kentucky Boulevard. The exercise is expected to run from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Students on campus, motorists and pedestrians in the area of the exercise should expect to see a number of uniformed law enforcement officers including the Columbia Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). The department's armored SWAT vehicle will also be on scene.
We're asking all of our media partners to share this information as widely as possible to help in notifying the public that these are exercises and there is no need to call 9-1-1 or take other actions.
*Please note, this training exercise is in addition to the training exercises referenced in the Public Safety Agencies to Practice Preparedness for an Active Assailant Event press release issued this morning.
