The 2016 Public Works Leader of the Year Award was presented to David Nichols by the Missouri Chapter of the American Public Works Association. Nichols is the director of Public Works for the City of Columbia.
"The Public Works Leader of the Year Award (Public Sector) seeks to inspire excellence and dedication in public service by recognizing the outstanding career service achievements of individual public works professionals and officials," said Tod Fagan, president of the APWA Missouri Chapter.
The primary focus of the award is on career service to the public works profession, said Fagan.
Nichols received the recognition during the fall conference of the APWA Missouri Chapter at the Holiday Inn Executive Center on Nov. 14. City Manager Mike Matthes and Deputy City Manager John Glascock attended the ceremony along with several City engineers.
"We are very proud of Dave for his accomplishments and how he has demonstrated servant leadership in Public Works and in all that he does," said Matthes.
