The crash occurred as vehicle 1, a 2003 Ford Taurus, was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of U.S. 63 near Discovery Parkway. Vehicle 2, a 2005 Subaru, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the inside lane of travel. Vehicle 3, a 2006 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the outside lane. Vehicle 4, a 2011 Nissan Rouge, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the inside lane behind vehicle 3. Vehicle 5, a 2007 Toyota Prius, was traveling northbound on U.S. 63 in the inside lane behind vehicle 4. As vehicle 1 approached vehicles 2, 3, 4, and 5, vehicle 2 swerved to the right to avoid vehicle 1. This caused vehicle 2 to lose control and run off the roadway to the left. Vehicle 3 pulled onto the shoulder to avoid vehicle 1. Vehicle 4 swerved to the right to try and avoid vehicle 1 but was spun into vehicle 3. Vehicle 4 then ran off the roadway to the right. Vehicle 5 was unable to avoid vehicle 1 which resulted in a head on crash. Driver 1, Passenger 1, and Driver 5 were transported to the hospital for serious injuries. Drivers 2, 3, and 4 were uninjured. Contributing factors in the crash are still under investigation to include why vehicle 1 was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.
