The Public Works Department announced on Tuesday that mill and overlay for sections of North Providence and Vawter School Road has been pushed back one day to August 24-26, weather permitting. Milling of Vawter School and Providence will now be on Wednesday (instead of Tuesday), and then asphalt overlay on Thursday.
The following is the planned work schedule, subject to change due to weather or other factors:
Wednesday, Aug. 24 (milling)
8:40 a.m. to noon: Vawter School Road (Old Mill Creek Road to 1200 feet west)
12:30 - 5 p.m.: North Providence Road (Blue Ridge to Cheetah Drive)
Thursday, Aug. 25 (asphalt overlay)
8:40 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Vawter School Road (Old Mill Creek Road to 1200 feet west)
1 - 6 p.m.: North Providence Road (Blue Ridge to Cheetah Drive)
Thursday & Friday, Aug. 25-26 (mill and overlay)
9 p.m. to Noon: Conley Road (Connector to 63 Bridge)
Crews will mill the roads, and then apply an overlay of asphalt. Motorists and nonmotorized transportation users should expect temporary lane closures while milling and overlay is being performed. Flaggers will be on hand to allow through traffic. Traffic is permitted on the road once it is milled, no detours are necessary. Once the street is overlaid, traffic may drive on the asphalt almost immediately.
Capital Paving has agreed to begin work after the peak hours for work and school traffic, starting at approximately 8:40 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday morning for Vawter School and North Providence. The work on the section of Conley Road is scheduled to take place Thursday night, from approximately 9 p.m. until noon on Friday.
Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users should use caution in the work zones to protect themselves and the safety of workers.
