The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced Friday that the mill and overlay for east Broadway, between Providence and Hitt Street, was completed on schedule Thursday night. The mill and overlay process was done during the evening from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to reduce inconvenience to local businesses and traveling public.
The contractor will provide a schedule after the Fourth of July holiday for when lane markings can be completed in the evening hours. Most of the marking will be similar to previous markings. However, adjustments were made, as motorists can now complete a legal left turn at Fifth and Broadway (previously prohibited).
"We appreciate the patience, cooperation and support of everyone," said Columbia Public Works Director Dave Nichols. "The paving of east Broadway was needed to preserve the condition of this very important road for downtown Columbia."
